Cowrie Books is a traditional publishing imprint of Naira Publishers that publishes 15,000 – 17,000 words of fiction writing, and it is published three times a year — January, May, and September.
We are mainly interested in literary, thriller, and speculative fiction. Romance and mystery fiction may not interest us.
Submission Guidelines
We accept manuscript submissions all year round.
Only one submission per writer is allowed. Multiple submissions will be discarded.
Take your time to read the books we publish under this imprint to have an understanding of the kind of stories we prefer before submitting our work.
We are only interested in original, unpublished stories. Stories that have appeared in any medium, print or online, are not welcome. We accept simultaneous submissions. However, if your work is published elsewhere before we do, let us know.
Your story should be properly formatted and paginated. We recommend the following formatting style: 1.5 line spacing, 12pt font size, Times New Roman font face, A4 paper size, and justified text.
We only accept Microsoft (MS) Word documents. The header of the document should contain your name and the title of your story. The first page of the document should contain the title of your story, the word count, and your full name.
Send us your work via attachment to cowriebooks@nairapublishers.com. The subject of the submission should read: ‘Cowrie Books’ — ‘Title of your work’ — ‘Author’s name’.
Accompany your submission with a cover letter in the body of the email. The cover letter should contain your address, phone number, title of your work, and the type or genre of fiction you are submitting.
When we receive your submission, our editorial team will review it within one month of your submission. If we are interested in the manuscript, we will notify you of our interest in publishing it.
Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we may not be able to respond to you immediately.
Renumeration
An accepted and published author under this imprint will receive N100,000 for their work and two complimentary copies of the book.
Contributors’ rights
Upon publication of your work by Cowrie Books, you give Naira Publishers the exclusive worldwide rights to publish and use your work in any form and medium known now, or that will exist in the future.
Also note that Naira Publishers, its parent company, staff, or partners are not responsible for any copyright infringement of work submitted to Cowrie Books and Naira Publishers.
